You will spend the morning in the Virtual Soldier Close Quarter Battle Area learning close action infantry skills in a series of true life combat manoeuvres. 21st century living is all about comfort and cosiness - often our idea of adventure is ordering a different takeaway. But we were designed to be capable of much more! Leave the mod-cons at home and rediscover your survival instincts with a weekend in the wild. Say hello to your fellow survivors as you sort out equipment preparation and get some initial instruction. You'll then set off together across a 500 acre site on an awareness walk using a map and compass, with training in all sorts of survival techniques - learn about edible plants, survival medicine, firelighting, skinning food (oh yes, this is proper survival), food preparation, collecting water and navigation. You'll build your own shelter - make it a good one, you'll be spending the night in it - before preparing your meal and cooking it over an open fire. Reckon you could cut it in the SAS, the most feared elite fighting force in the world? Of course not - it wouldn't be elite or feared if it let people like us in. But with this experience you can try out some of the fun stuff that these rock-hard soldiers get up to, without having to do any of the scary bits. First off you'll be met by SAS-style troopers, and you and the rest of the group will be divided into training teams. Each team will then undergo training sessions run by qualified instructors on some of the following: live firing combat school, close quarter battle school using M15 assault rifles, 81mm mortar range, live grenade range, live minefield infiltration range, pistol skills close protection, survival skills, camouflage and concealment or unarmed combat. Experience the glamorous world of international espionage by indulging the fantasy with this great day playing at secret agents. After a full briefing learn some of the skills employed by secret agents all over the world, head to the firing ranges and learn how to shoot automatic pistols and sniper rifles. Then move onto axe throwing (for goodness' sake don't try this at home), unarmed combat and covert surveillance, using cameras and bugs. Then try evasive driving - including J turns, handbrake turns and anti-ambush drills. Finish off at the 'drive in' pistol range, firing at targets from a moving vehicle, before screeching to a halt, jumping out of the car for more shooting and then speeding off. Throughout the day you'll be supervised by instructors who have first-hand experience of carrying out surveillance operations. Immersed in the atmosphere of the Imperial War Museum Duxford, this package makes for an extra special day. First is a hands-on flying lesson in the open cockpit of a Tiger Moth, the classic bi-plane, after which you will be able to get behind the wheel of an armoured military vehicle.
