Let's face it, there are only so many times that the kids are going to get excited when parents say ''Let's go to the cinema!'' or ''Let's go to the museum!''. Treat them to a family day out with a difference and visit Eagle Heights, Kent's premier bird of prey centre. This experience includes entry for four into the centre which, as well as birds of prey, houses many other animals such as huskies, reptiles, otters and meerkats to name but a few. Surfing is no longer the preserve of teenagers who call everyone dude - because the rest of the world has cottoned on to how much fun it is. On this full day experience you'll learn the basics of surfing practice and etiquette and by the end of the day you'll be catching some waves with the best of them. The instructors all have lifeguard and first aid qualifications, so you'll be in safe hands. In your two-hour morning lesson you'll learn all about safety, basic paddling techniques, catching waves, board trim and steering, standing up (the hard bit!), wave selection and rights of way. Whoever said you had to have snow to ride behind a team of husky dogs? You don't need to take your child to the white Arctic wilderness. Huskies just love to run, so if the sled is on wheels then any terrain works. All you need to think about is holding on tight, these dogs don't hang around for slow boarders! Don't worry though, we're not just going to throw you to the dogs (they are quite happy with their diet of meat and fish thank you!), you'll get a chance to meet a real husky handler who can explain what the dogs do, why and give some history where they come from. You can pet the animals and help put on their harnesses before jumping on and enjoying a stunning trip through the Darent Valley behind a team of at least eight huskies. And the best bit is that you can sit back and relax while your handler does all the hard work of mushing or hiking (terms used to run the sled) and controlling the animals! Let's be honest, nobody wants to hit the slopes for the first time looking like a complete novice, even if they are one. So get some practise in before going on holiday with a snowboarding lesson at the UK's top indoor real snow centre. You'll start off with a safety briefing and an introduction to the equipment (which is all included). Then you'll try out some basic moves and find out whether you're a 'regular foot' or 'goofy foot' - that is, whether your leading leg is your left or your right. Looking for something different for the family? Blow away those cobwebs with a vengeance in a powerboat experience round the south coast - it's wet, it's windy and loads of fun! The Honda Formula 4-Stroke (HF4S) championship is the most exciting offshore powerboat series in the world - these boats are responsive and manoeuvrable and what more perfect way of keeping the kids occupied at the weekend? You'll start off with a safety briefing and introduction to the boat, then it's time for everyone to get changed into the provided safety gear and racing team kit (a snap of which makes a great screensaver). You and your family willl head out onto Southampton water with an expert driver (usually a current or veteran racer) who'll put the boat through her paces while you hang on tight. You get tuition in how to handle the boat and then about 15 minutes hands-on driving (at the skipper's discretion). Take the wheel of five very different off-road activities, with a little help from your personal instructor. Driving experience is definitely not essential, so adults - get ready to be upstaged by the youngsters. After a safety briefing you'll all have a go at driving the 'dizzymobile'. This crazy vehicle has two independently-steered axles and two steering wheels (think tapping your head and rubbing your tummy and you'll be half way there). Good teamwork between the two drivers is the only way you'll make it through a tight, twisty coned course. Then (depending on your age) either ride or drive a Daihatsu on the 4x4 jungle run. Next comes the blindfold driving in the Korean Kia jeep, where you'll all take turns at driving and navigating, followed by the quad course.
